SES + Statistics

About half of SES graduates choose to add the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Statistics (IDPS) to their program, graduating with a PhD in ‘Social and Engineering Systems and Statistics.’

These students develop an even deeper understanding of 21st century Statistics, using advanced concepts of probability and statistics, computation and data analysis and then apply these concepts within their chosen field of study. Theses can address both theory and applications.

IDPS has five required classes. Most of these can also be counted toward the SES program requirements. Current SES students may apply to join IDPS by Add Date during the Fall and Spring terms, as early as their second year in the program but no later than their penultimate semester. For more info, current MIT doctoral students may write to the IDSS Academic Office.
